One of the known secrets for any pro athlete to keep performing at his/her best is to strike a good life/work balance, which Leal seems to have dialled. It’s not all about training and racing, which is part of Leal’s life as a pro, but so is enjoying the act of riding a bike with friends.

How did you get into cycling?
My father rode a bike and enjoyed cycling, I liked what I saw so I began cycling and decided to try out the competitive aspect.
How do you train for racing?
I always try to train with maximum dedication —I stay focused on my goals but I also try to enjoy the companionship and take pleasure in what I do.
What was your best result?
4th place overall in the Tour of Loulé
Tell us about your best race.
It was a race in which I was well-prepared and felt good. I tried to fight for the general classification; my teammates were always by my side and they helped me a lot, but in the end I finished fourth.
What do you do in your free time?
Relax, watch TV/movies/ videos, play video games, be with my family.
